The 7 Best Hiking Sports Bras

When I am exercising I want my sports bra to lock me in. I don’t want to have to worry about bouncing or chafing on day 3 of a backcountry hike! Over the years I have tried many different sports bras and I prefer the feeling of high to medium-high support, but I also don’t want to feel squished or constricted. Sports bras have come a long way from the older cotton compression “uni-boob” style to more technologically advanced bras with molded cups, moisture-wicking fabrics, and high adjustability. These bras will keep you feeling secure and supported throughout your whole workout, even if that means days in the backcountry! Here are some of my favorite picks for high-support sports bras.

*Disclaimer: I have a medium-sized chest, so these picks might not work the best if you have a larger chest, but some of these bras do go up to a size H!

1) Knix Catalyst Front Zip Sports Bra

Purple Knix Sports Bra

Definitely one of my favorite sports bras of all time, the Knix Catalyst sports bra, provides a super secure fit. This bra comes in both front zip closure and traditional back clasp closure. The Catalyst bra has “encapsulated cups” that conform to your body, providing support without just squishing you down. This bra provides high impact support for even the most rigorous activities like hiking and climbing. The straps on both the front and back closure are adjustable so you will find the perfect fit. Knix is great at providing a large range of sizes from 32A to 42H cup.

Pros:

  • High impact support

  • Large range of cup sizes (A-H)

  • Front and back closure types depending on your preference

Cons:

  • Knix bras fit snug at first but loosen after wash and wear to a comfortable fit

2) Adidas TLRD Impact Training High-Support Bra

I wore the Adidas TLRD Impact Training High-Support sports bra on a four day backpacking trip and felt really great. The criss-cross back along with the clasp closure made it easy to get on and off, even when I was sweaty from a long hike, but you can also wear the straps straight if that is your preference. The AEROREADY fabric is moisture-wicking to keep you dry in serious workouts. The TLRD bra also has encapsulated cups that support you without giving the “uniboob” look. This bra is offered in sizes 2XS-4X, or A to G cup sizes.

Pros:

  • High-impact support

  • Customizable fit with adjustable straps

  • Wide range of sizes from A-G cups

Cons:

  • Sides of the bra are a little low which could result in armpit chafing

3) Shefit Ultimate Sports Bra

The Shefit Ultimate Sports Bra gained notoriety online after going viral because of its super high impact support. This bra has adjustable velcro straps on both the shoulder straps and the ribcage straps for a custom fit. These straps also allow you to secure your bust down for the highest level of support. The shoulder straps are 1.5” wide and padded, and the rib band is 2” wide for extra comfort. The straps can also be worn straight, or crisscrossed depending on your preference. If you have a larger chest, you won’t find a more supportive bra than this! Shefit offers sizes from a XS-6X.

Pros:

  • Highest level of support on the market

  • Maximum adjustability with shoulder straps and rib band

  • Inclusive sizing from XS-6X

Cons:

  • Might be a bit overkill if you have a smaller (A-B) cup size

4) Brooks Racerback 2.0 Sports Bra

Designed by a running gear company, the Brooks Racerback 2.0 Sports Bra is made for high impact activities. This bra has built in cups and adjustable straps for you to find your perfect fit. The wide rib band is made from comfortable material which protects against chafing. The Racerback 2.0 sports bra is offered in sizes from a 32B-44FF.

Pros:

  • Molded cups and adjustable shoulder straps

  • Wide rib band is very comfortable

Cons:

  • Larger sizes might be more difficult to find as they are often sold out on the website

5) Nike Pro Indy Plunge Medium Support Sports Bra

The Nike Pro Indy Plunge sports bra is a fashionable choice that still gives medium support. This bra has more minimal coverage which is great for hiking on those hot days. You can also remove the cups and adjust the straps to your liking. This bra comes in a matching set if you like a coordinated queen on the trail! One of the major downsides of this bra is that it only goes from sizes XS-2XL, it would be nice if it was offered in more extended sizes.

Pros:

  • Fashionable bra with matching bottoms

  • Minimal coverage still giving medium support

  • Adjustable straps and removable cups

Cons:

  • Only offered in sizes XS-2XL

  • Has to be put on/taken off over your head which can be annoying

6) Patagonia Shadowlite High Impact Adjustable Bra

Blue Patagonia Sports Bra

As I have said many times on this blog, Patagonia shines with its quality products and focus on sustainability. The Shadowlite High-Impact Bra is no different. This bra is made from 74% recycled nylon sourced from fishing nets and is made in sustainable factories. This fabric is moisture-wicking and anti-bacterial, which is great when you have to wear the same bra for days on a backcountry hike. There are minimal seams to prevent chafing and the back straps are adjustable.

Pros:

  • High-impact support enhanced by adjustable straps

  • Anti-odor and moisture-wicking material

  • Made from recycled materials in sustainable, fair-trade factories

Cons:

  • Sizing could be expanded (XXS-2XL)

7) Athleta Invincible Bra

Athleta Invincible Bra

I am a big fan of Athleta, I think they offer quality products that rival other brands like Lululemon. The Invincible Bra is a high-impact sports bra that is great long days out on the trail. The front of the bra offers higher coverage to keep you locked in place, the straps are adjustable and there is a back clasp so you don’t have to drag it over your head to get it on and off. The Invincible Bra has mesh panels and moisture wicking materials that enhance heat loss, keeping you cool on the hottest days. This bra is designed for 32B-40DD.

Pros:

  • High-impact support with wider, comfortable shoulder straps

  • Moisture-wicking material and mesh panels help keep you cool

  • Higher neckline to prevent bounce

Cons:

  • Smaller size offerings than is typical for Athleta

Finding the perfect sports bra for hiking is essential for comfort, support, and confidence on the trail. Whether you prefer high-impact support, moisture-wicking fabrics, or adjustable straps, there's a great option out there for every hiker. By choosing the right sports bra, you'll be ready to take on any adventure with ease, ensuring that nothing holds you back from enjoying the great outdoors.
